1: Effect of the Lifetime Limit freeze a massive opportunity to serve existing clients and new prospects - HNW ones!

The Treasury has recently announced that the Lifetime Limit will remain static from 2011 at a £1.8milion cap. This is different to the initial proposal and could mean that clients who may have been able to avoid being affected by the Lifetime Limit, find themselves very much in that bracket for existing pension provision. Therefore it will probably be necessary to review clients in the aforementioned situation as well as potential clients that it was felt were originally below the limit. As a guideline, even a 57 year old retiring at age 65 earning £100,000 p.a. in a final salary scheme could now exceed the Lifetime Limit. 2: B &C Insurance could be a life line

With the housing market almost at a standstill and fewer mortgage products on the market, intermediaries have been one of the hardest hit industries by the recession. IFA's and mortgage brokers need to find new sources of revenue to see them through this tough period and general insurance is the logical solution. Kevin Paterson, sales and marketing director at Assurant Solutions Intermediary (ASI), commented: “Buildings and contents is vital insurance for borrowers and so it’s typically not hard to sell. Unlike mortgages, commission from insurance is received year-on-year and so, even though the commission per sale may be comparatively small, it has a cumulative effect. Some of our IFAs and brokers, for example, selling just one buildings and contents policy per week are generating revenues from the ongoing commission of over £7,000 per annum after just a couple of years and £54,000 per annum after six years.”

Furthermore, broadening your remit to include general insurance gives you more opportunities to speak to clients and build a relationship with them. And in this climate, which client wouldn’t be grateful for a better deal and the chance to save some money?

8 Increase your earnings

Clients are becoming more demanding. Ask yourself three questions:
