A new Faculty of Underwriting has been formally launched by The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) following the inaugural meeting of an Advisory Board.
The Faculty has been introduced to provide support to those working within the Functions of underwriting, pricing, risk modelling, risk management /control /surveying, reinsurance, marketing/sales, compliance and audit.
It is the latest in a range of market facing Faculties introduced by the CII to deliver targeted added value and career advantage to members working within specific disciplines. Nearly 2500 members have already signed-up to join the Faculty after the intention to create it was announced last year.
Lee Gladwell, CII Group Sales and Marketing Director
says the Faculties play an important role in the CII's engagement with the market: “Each is led by the market to ensure that the CII delivers exactly what that market sector requires. This is enabling us to focus our support to companies and members and to provide them with the tools and services they need in this fast changing environment."
An Advisory Board comprised of senior market practitioners will help the CII to shape the Faculty, the members have been announced as:
*
Mark Cliff, Distribution Director, Axa Insurance
*

“Underwriters in particular need to make sure that their awareness and knowledge of market issues is second to none” comments Lee Gladwell, “the Faculty has a crucial role in this respect by providing the market intelligence to enable the CII to develop the right products and services. In doing so we will also enhance the professional talent within the sector.”
The CII’s recently launched Job Role and Competency framework already signposts levels of competence for those undertaking a range of underwriting roles from assistant to manager. A range of additional services are also being developed for members of the Faculty.
The CII already has general insurance Faculties for the London Market; Broking; Claims and a suite for the financial services sector. Membership of one faculty is free to CII members. Further details: www.cii.co.uk/faculties
